Monaco takes a further step towards an exclusively Monegasque mobile numbering system
From 1 October 2026, all new mobile numbers issued in the Principality will exclusively use Monaco’s +377 international country code.
This change follows agreements concluded between the Digital Platforms and Resources Department of the Prince's Government and the French Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications, Postal Affairs and Press Distribution (Arcep).
Since the launch of Monaco’s first mobile phone services in 1993, the Principality’s mobile numbering system has been linked to the French numbering plan: ten-digit numbers beginning with 06.
In 1996, Monaco obtained its own international country code, +377, marking a major milestone in the autonomy of its telecommunications system.
Monaco Telecom numbers have been able to coexist under both country codes, +33 and +377. This arrangement, a legacy of the history of mobile telecommunications in Monaco, is now evolving towards an exclusively Monegasque mobile numbering plan for all newly allocated numbers.
So, what exactly is changing?
- From 1 October 2026, every new individual or business customer taking out a Monaco Telecom mobile plan will be assigned an eight-digit number preceded by the +377 international country code, in the format: +377 377 xx xxx
- Existing Monaco Telecom customers with a mobile number beginning with 06 will keep their current number, with no action required
This change will strengthen the security of electronic communications, particularly by helping to combat number spoofing and certain forms of telephone fraud.
