H.E. Mr Frédéric Labarrère, Monaco’s Ambassador to Belgium, was presented with the symbolic flag of the European Capitals and Cities of Sport Federation (ACES) in Brussels on Thursday 12 December. ACES, which is recognised by the European Commission and is an official UNESCO partner, presented the flag to Monaco as part of the annual gala held at the European Parliament.

Following in the footsteps of Sofia (Bulgaria) in 2024, the Principality of Monaco has been named the World Capital of Sport 2025.

This distinction recognises the proactive policy that the Prince’s Government has towards developing and promoting sport. It is a policy led by H.S.H. Prince Albert II, who has always been clear about his commitment to sport as a vehicle for peace and development.

The Prince’s Government encourages sport at school, promoting education through physical activity. It also advocates wellbeing through sport, making available public facilities that are accessible to all, and, finally, encourages the spirit of competition by supporting high-level athletes and hosting international sporting events.
