Principle and conditions
Legalisation of a signature is used to authenticate a signature on private documents (i.e. documents that are not written and signed in the presence of a notary) by an official signature.
For example, you can request a signature to be legalised for: certificates for importing or exporting vehicles, adoption documents, documents relating to funerals, notaries' bills of sale, power of attorney, leases, etc.
You must sign the document (in French or translated by a sworn translator) in the presence of an official and must show proof of identity. A legalised signature costs €5 in Monegasque tax stamp per document.
Obtaining the legalised signature
You must ensure that you have the original of the document to be signed and proof of identity. Then you should go to:
- Either the Direction de la Sûreté Publique (Police Department)
