Understanding the process
A driven car service may, when trade requirements justify this, rent additional vehicles, which are referred to as auxiliary vehicles at a rate of one auxiliary vehicle to two main vehicles.
Auxiliary vehicles must have undergone an approved technical inspection in the 6 months prior to the time when they are put into service, unless they are less than one year old at the time when they are first put into service.
Auxiliary vehicles must comply with the technical characteristics set out in Article 27 of Sovereign Ordinance No. 1.720 of 04 July 2008 on the regulation of taxis, chauffeur-driven vehicles, official city vehicles and motorcycles on request.
The use of auxiliary chauffeur-driven vehicles is subject to authorisation.
The annual authorisation gives the chauffeur-driven vehicle company greater flexibility in the use of an auxiliary chauffeur-driven vehicle, particularly when there is a last-minute need at weekends.
The annual authorisation is not allocated to a single vehicle, but enables auxiliary vehicles to be used throughout the relevant year at the rate of one vehicle at a time per authorisation.
The company undertakes to:
- Use vehicles that meet the technical specifications mentioned in Article 27 of Sovereign Ordinance 1.720
- Keep an up-to-date register of all the vehicles used and the dates concerned and communicate a copy of the register to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office on a monthly basis
- Send the monthly register form to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office at the end of each month or upon request
This authorisation is valid for one year from the date of issue mentioned on the said document, and when in use, the annual authorisation must be affixed to the right side of the windscreen, thus facilitating its recognition on different vehicles throughout the year.
There is a fee associated with this service - Please see
