How to apply for or renewing a certificate of approval for vehicles transporting dangerous goods

All vehicles used for the national and international transport of dangerous goods (ADR- Accord for Dangerous goods by Road) by road and registered in Monaco must hold a valid Monegasque certificate of approval for vehicles transporting dangerous goods (TDG) equivalent to that required for a French vehicle.

The certificate of approval for vehicles transporting dangerous goods (TDG) is intended to verify, prior to entry into service and on an annual basis, that the vehicles used to transport dangerous goods have been declared suitable for this purpose. These checks are designed to ensure that the equipment is capable of providing safe loading and storage throughout the transport process, up to the point of delivery.

The certificate of approval for vehicles transporting dangerous goods (TDG) is issued upon a vehicle's entry into service at the request of the manufacturer or an approved panel beater at authorised French testing centres. The initial certificate is valid for 5 years, renewable until the vehicle's equipment or transport tank is replaced or becomes non-compliant.

In addition, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office issues a new Monegasque certificate of approval for vehicles transporting dangerous goods (TDG) in exchange for the French or European ADR TDG certificate of approval.

This is not a requirement for equipment used in the following situations:

• Transporting small quantities of petrol or diesel in plastic/steel/aluminium drums of up to 100 litres or a fixed plastic/steel/aluminium tank of less than 500 litres in a commercial vehicle

The registration of vehicles used for transporting dangerous goods must be applied for through the same procedure as any other vehicle upon purchase.

To register your vehicle:

Important: The Monegasque certificate of approval for vehicles transporting dangerous goods (TDG) must be kept in the vehicle for any police checks. Furthermore, it must be produced at all technical regular inspections of the vehicle. Failure to do so will result in a repeat inspection.
 

To renew the certificate, in accordance with the relevant DREAL regulations, provided that the vehicle's equipment or transport tank is satisfactorily maintained and that no major modifications have been made, the vehicle owner should make an appointment with an approved French vehicle testing centre.

The vehicle owner must immediately send the new certificate of approval for vehicles transporting dangerous goods (TDG) to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office directly from the reception desk of the Vehicle Testing Centre or by post, in order for the new Monegasque certificate of approval for vehicles transporting dangerous goods (TDG) to be issued.

The French document will be available for collection from the reception desk of the Vehicle Testing Centre within 72 hours or will be sent to the owner by post.

When the vehicle (tank, equipment, etc.) has been declared unfit for transporting dangerous goods (TDG) in its current state, the only possible option is to decommission the vehicle and request its removal from the vehicle registration file (See the How to sell or transfer a vehicle or How to declare the destruction of a vehicle procedures).
