The Principality of Monaco has been awarded the prestigious EEA Gold label with a score of 80.2%
Monaco is proud to become a recipient of the EEA Gold label (European Energy Award Gold), a prestigious recognition of the Principality's continuous efforts to enhance the exemplary management of its energy and climate policy and its energy transition. With a remarkable score of 80.2%, Monaco is one of the few municipalities to achieve this level of excellence.
The EEA Gold label is awarded to municipalities actively committed to reducing their carbon footprint, preserving their biodiversity and adapting to climate change. This recognition is a testament to the success of the practical measures implemented to ensure a sustainable, efficient and innovative energy policy; this is the highest European recognition for municipalities committed to implementing their Climate, Air and Energy Plans.
This initiative, led by the Department of the Environment, a decision-making member of the EEA Association, alongside Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg and Switzerland, is the result of a cross-disciplinary, multi-stakeholder collaboration between the various directorates/services of all the departments of the Prince's Government, as well as Monaco City Hall, who have worked together to achieve this ambitious goal.
This award reflects the Principality's united efforts and its environmental leadership. Continuing this collective effort will lead to a more sustainable future for Monaco and future generations.
Obtaining the EEA Gold label is a major step forward in implementing and monitoring the Principality's energy and climate policy, highlighting the exemplary standards it upholds nationally and internationally.
Monaco was presented with the label during a ceremony in Bolzano, Italy, on 28 November.
