IAEA – Principality of Monaco attends Conference on Nuclear Science, Technology and Applications
A Monegasque delegation led by Ms Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, visited Vienna from 25 to 27 November 2024 to take part in the work of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Science, Technology and Applications and the Technical Cooperation Programme.
The aim of this special conference was to strengthen international cooperation and explore innovations in the nuclear field, while highlighting the role of nuclear science, technology and applications in achieving the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In her speech, Isabelle Berro-Amadeï shared the importance that the Principality of Monaco attaches to the peaceful use of nuclear science, technology and applications. The Minister also reiterated the Prince’s Government’s support for the work of the IAEA Marine Environment Laboratories, which the Principality has hosted since 1961, and recalled H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince’s personal commitment to protecting the environment and combatting the impact of climate change, particularly on the oceans. She noted that a partnership had recently been agreed between the Prince Albert II Foundation and the IAEA to collaborate on areas such as ocean acidification, ocean changes and plastic pollution.
Finally, she highlighted the priority afforded by Monaco to the Agency’s work in the field of human health, reflected in practice through Monaco’s long-standing support for the "Rays of Hope" cancer initiative.
