This balanced piece of legislation, which covers students in higher education who are completing internships with private organisations and public institutions, seeks to offer increased protection to interns while optimising the benefits for employers.

Internships must now form part of an academic programme, be governed by a tripartite agreement involving the intern, the host organisation and the educational establishment and, finally, offer a bonus payment if they are more than two months in duration.

For Christophe Robino, "professional internships are a vital step in training and educating students and young graduates. To ensure an enriching and fair experience for interns, while protecting the interests of businesses, it felt important to have legislation that establishes clear, simple rules".
