Understanding the process
In a bid to harmonise the colours of the various architectural elements of building façades in the Principality, the Department of Forward Studies, Urban Planning and Mobility (DPUM) is making available, to anyone who wishes to carry out restoration or construction work a colour palette, to adhere to.
The general palette for façades offers 36 colours which are in keeping with the area’s urban and architectural development. For contemporary architecture and future heritage sites, 24 colours have been retained. Potential users are also offered suggestions on the best combinations of colours for façades and door and window frames.
The colour palette is presented as a colour chart comprising more than 150 shades, from saturated hues to halftones. It is a decision-making tool for building owners, architects and all those involved in selecting the colour of a building.
The choice of colour for façades, window frames, foundations, undersides of balconies and verandas, windows and openings, shutters and Persian blinds, doors and entrances, wrought-iron work and balconies, and commercial frontages and awnings, must be submitted to the DPUM for approval.
Only those shades which appear in the Principality’s colour chart will be allowed.
You may, if you wish, approach the DPUM to assist you in making your choice.
