Understanding the process
A driven car service may, when trade requirements justify this, rent additional vehicles, which are referred to as auxiliary vehicles, at a rate of one auxiliary vehicle to two main vehicles or in excess of the quota by exemption when justified by commercial needs.
Auxiliary vehicles must have undergone an approved technical inspection in the 6 months prior to the time when they are put into service, unless they are less than one year old at the time when they are first put into service.
Auxiliary vehicles must comply with the technical characteristics set out in Article 27 of Ordinance no. 1.720 of 04 July 2008 relating to the regulation of taxis, chauffeur-driven vehicles, official city vehicles and motorcycles on request.
The use of auxiliary chauffeur-driven vehicles is subject to authorisation.
This authorisation may be granted on a one-off basis and is valid for a maximum of 15 days. It is allocated to a single vehicle during the period in question and mentions its make, registration number and the name of the lessor.
The authorisation consists of a coupon that can be cut out and affixed to the right of the windscreen, thus making it easier to recognise the auxiliary private hire vehicle.
There is a fee associated with this service - Please see
Code D6A request authorisation to use an auxiliary chauffeur-driven vehicle must be sent to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office using the appropriate form, duly completed and signed on the original.
The form may be:

- Collected from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office
A request authorisation to use an auxiliary chauffeur-driven vehicle must be accompanied by the following documents:
- A copy of the vehicle registration certificate
- A copy of the rental agreement
- A copy of the technical inspection report (dated within the past 6 months) issued by the Monaco Vehicle Testing Centre or, failing that, by an approved French centre, unless the vehicle is less than one year old when it is first put into service
- If applicable, the agreement of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office to have an auxiliary vehicle in excess of the quota*
- The payment, to be made by cash, cheque or postal order (clearable in Monaco or France), made out to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office and Visa or Mastercard bank cards only, in accordance with the current fee schedule
Any administrative procedure undertaken at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office by a third party must be accompanied by a mandate signed by the principal and by supporting documents showing proof of these persons' identities.
However, it does not allow the representative to sign the documents in place of the principal.
* If the vehicle requested exceeds the authorised quota, i.e. one auxiliary vehicle for every two main registered vehicles, a derogation must be requested by sending an email to the address, circulation@gouv.mc justifying the special commercial needs related to the Principality's agenda.
